Mandala Yoga Ashram is an internationally renowned centre of yogic knowledge. It is dedicated to presenting yogic science, including meditation, to those who are sincerely looking to consciously connect with their spiritual potential; those who are searching for wisdom, to awaken the joy of their own Being, and for harmony and a depth of meaning in their life.
The Ashram is a registered U.K. charity (No:326847) with the following mission statement:
The mission of Mandala Yoga Ashram is to carry the light of traditional yoga to the world in practical and scientific terms that are relevant to modern life; to present yoga as a means of improving physical, emotional and mental health, and awakening us to our Essential Being. In this way the Ashram teachings bring deep meaning, happiness and fulfilment into our lives as a service to all in society.
The Ashram provides a quiet, safe and peaceful haven where yoga practitioners can retreat from their daily lives and responsibilities to deepen their practice of yoga, thereby gaining understanding of their emotions and mind, as well as insight into their nature as Awareness.
The Ashram is an independent institution which is not affiliated to any religious beliefs or sects; it is only concerned with awakening the intelligence and potential which exists innate in each human being. It is one of the few authentic ashrams outside of India.
It was founded by Swami Nishchalananda in 1986 to teach and propagate traditional yoga to the modern world whilst maintaining its high quality and original purpose. Swamiji’s formative spiritual years were spent in India between 1971-1985 under the guidance of his teacher, Swami Satyananda. He travelled all around India teaching and inspiring countless people, before returning to the West to set up Mandala Yoga Ashram in rural south-west Wales. He has remained the Ashram’s Spiritual Director to this day and is not just an inspiring and a much sought-after teacher, but also the author of several modern classical yogic books.
Supporting Swamiji, other senior teachers within the Ashram include Swami Satyadaya, Swami Krishnapremananda, Maha Sattwa and Reva. Notable visiting teachers include Swami GyanDharma, Dr. Hania Kramlund, Rajesh David and Swami Atma.
Each year, the Ashram offers in-depth residential retreats on yoga and meditation from February to November, ranging for example from 2-day, 3-day, 7-day, and 10-day retreats. In addition, there are yet longer training courses including 2-year Yoga Teacher Training, and 1-year Kriya Yoga and Chakra training courses. Practitioners can also stay in the Ashram for shorter or longer periods in order to deepen their self-understanding, develop their inner resources, and renew their direction in life.
