The Principals:
Brian has been practising yoga for over 30 years and is an advanced
yoga practitioner. He has teaching diplomas in Iyengar, Sivananda
and Ashtanga Yoga. As director of Union Yoga Centre, Edinburgh
he was the first person to introduce courses in Ashtanga Yoga
in Scotland and has trained thousands of students. To date he
has led ten highly rated teacher training courses.
Brian teaches Thai Massage which he learnt from some of the
leading masters in Thailand, where he obtained his advanced
diploma. In 1995 he studied Ashtanga Yoga intensively with the
late Derek Ireland and has studied for five months with the
Ashtanga master Pattabhi Jois in Mysore.
Nawajyoti has been practising for over 18 years and has been
teaching for the last 10 years. She teaches traditional hatha
yoga and now studies intensively with Swami Satchidananda, the
silent sage of Madras. Nawajyoti runs here own yoga centre in
South of France called Durga Sadhini established specifically
for individual and group yoga retreats.
Requirements:
We welcome students from any yoga style who have enjoyed a strong
regular practice for at least
two years but not necessarily in Astanga yoga.
- Competence in the Primary series of Astanga Yoga, or the
equivalent in other styles, is required.
- You should be committed to the aims and principles of yoga
and in teaching to a high professional standard.
- The course will be intensive but highly rewarding.
- It will also be suitable for anyone wishing to deepen and
refine their own practice without necessarily wanting to teach.
- We also require a reference from a teacher with whom you
have been studying on a regular basis.

Approval & Certification:
Graduates of a School on the Yoga Register (YRS)
are entitled to use the letters YRT (Yoga Register
Teacher) and benefit from a discounted subscription rate of
£25 for annual entry on The Yoga Register (www.theyogaregister.org).
The International Yoga Federation and the Yoga Alliance of
Europe have also established guidelines for a 200-hour minimum
teaching qualification, which is recognized throughout Europe.
The Yoga Alliance of the USA is also a member of this federation.
Union Yoga is an honorary member of The International Yoga
Federation and the Yoga Alliance of Europe. Our teacher training
courses comply with the 200 hour standards they have set.

- 6 month 200 hour course (5 weekends + 1
week) in Edinburgh, UK (14/15 May 05, 18/19 June 05, 16/17
July 05, 20/21 Aug 05, 15/16 Oct 05, 12-18 November 05)
- 3 week 200 hour Intensive Course (non-residential)
in Portugal (10th September – 1st October 05) (not including
the 3 guest workshops held at Astanga Yoga Centre, Edinburgh
£2,000.00 covers all tuition and accommodation,
but not flights)
- 6 month 200 hour Course (5 weekends + 1
week) in Edinburgh, UK (28/29 January 06, 25/26 February 06,
25/26 March 06, 29/30 April 06, 27/28 May 06, 29th May –
4th June 06)
